5 Minutes With Heath Herring

So, we hear you’re moving?

Ya buddy, I’m in the process of getting a house right now.

UFC must be paying you too much money.

I wish man.

How’d you get started in the fight game?

Actually, I got started in Amarillo, Texas on a dirt fl oor rodeo arena.

Rodeo Arena??

Ya, they were starting up an organization there in Amarillo right when I had signed to play football as West Texas A&M University. For some reason, it didn’t interfere with my scholarship. So, I got to make some money fi ghting and play football at the same time. It worked out great.

What are the best and worst parts about being a fi ghter?

The best part is after the fi ght is over and you can go out and have a good time with your buddies. The worst part is right before the fi ght when you just stay at home and you can’t do a damn thing.

Where do you see you see yourself right now in the heavyweight division?

I see myself right up there in the mix… especially in the UFC. I think I should be up there as one of the guys looking at a title shot. But I got Nog back in July, so its pretty tough to make that fi ght happen right now.

What’s the absolute worst job you ever had?

(Laughing hard) You know, I used to work at Chuck E Cheese.

Awesome. Tell us you were the mouse.

I was more like the Chuck E Cheese bouncer. I had to make sure the kids stayed in line.

What’s something most people don’t know about you?

Well, I speak a few languages. I speak Dutch fl uently. I’m pretty good at German and Spanish. My Italian is OK too.

What’s your favorite sport outside of MMA?

College football for sure.

Who is your team?

Well, my family is all from Baylor… and even though they don’t do anything but lose… we’re loyal.

And now the FIGHT! fi nal two. What’s a song you jam out to when you are alone that no man should ever be caught listening to?

Man I like old metal stuff. Iron Maiden and stuff. I actually got a ticket driving to LA the other day listening to “Run to the Hills” by Iron Maiden.

Iron Maiden is not embarrassing Mr. Herring.

I’m at a loss on this one, buddy.

And fi nally of course, Jessica Alba, Jessica Simpson, or Jessica Biel?

How bout all three?

Geez, that seems to be the popular answer. You only get one, c’mon.

Jessica Biel then, for sure.

Thanks for the time Heath. We’ll be looking for you in the cage again soon.
