3. DEATH RACE 3: Inferno
The Death Race series stars Luke Goss, a newer MMA fan and a longtime heavyweight boxing aficionado.
For his part in the Death Race series, the Brit trained extensively in martial arts for nine weeks straight—something he hasn’t done since taking a beginner’s karate class as a child.
Goss worked closely with Jackie Chan and his stunt team, as well as Blade trilogy star Wesley Snipes.
While Goss learned most of his moves in the months leading up to filming, he trains as much as possible whenever his hectic schedule permits. Before he stepped on set to shoot 2008’s Hellboy II: The Golden Army, he used boxing as a means to get in shape. The actor dropped to 5 percent body fat and boxed every day. Later, he took up Krav Maga, because, as he put it, “I like how effective it is, but also, it’s not vain in any way. It’s an unbelievably practical discipline.”
Much of that Krav Maga influence can be seen in Death Race 3, as well as in a fight scene with beautiful Tanit Phoenix, involving no less than 15 other hot chicks.
Though death is in the title, the movie is supposed to fill the audience with joy. “Really, I want people to be entertained. That’s the thing. It’s that kind of a movie,” Goss says. “Interview With A Hitman or Dead Drop are different. They’re a thinking man’s movie. This is made just to have fun.”
