What are the few days after a Strikeforce fight like?
I usually just kind of bury myself in a hole. I don’t like to do any press for a whole week. I just want to sit on the couch, play Donkey Kong, eat ice cream, and not talk to anybody except for my really, really close friends. I just like a week to be left alone, chill out, and eat food that’s bad for me.
In an interview, Dana White compared you to the Diaz brothers, saying, ‘She’s like a man trapped in a beautiful woman’s body.’ Compliment or weird comment?
It’s a compliment. I’ve been around guys my entire life—the way they talk and the violence, I’m used to that. Even before I was a fighter, I was a daddy’s girl. I’ve always enjoyed the company of men. To say that I’m like one of the guys is a huge compliment to me. I like being one of the guys… not physically, of course. But, you know… in banter.
How is dating now that you’ve been on TV, radio, and naked on the cover of ESPN the Magazine?
Dating? As in… like men?
Well, if you’re dating women let us know.
No, I’m not dating women. I just don’t have time, which kind of sucks. Not as many guys approach me now. I hear that I’m intimidating, and I’m like, ‘I don’t know what I’m intimidating for. Just come up and talk to me. I’m not gonna kill ya.’ I just don’t have time for any real love life right now. If you’re looking, you never find anyone. I’m not looking. I’m doing my own things. If something falls in my lap, that’s awesome, but I’m a very difficult person to date.
How so?
I hang out with a bunch of guys that pretty much stick their balls in my face every day [laughing]. I’m traveling all the time. I’ll need a guy that is very, very self-confident and very, very trusting, because I’m a guys’ girl. I’m hanging out with a bunch of dudes. The guys I’m hanging out with aren’t computer programmers—they’re elite athletes. I need the kind of man that is trusting and confident enough to know that.
Time for the mandatory Cris Cyborg question. It seems like you may have softened on your stance that you won’t fight her at a catch weight.
Oh yeah, I was counting the minutes. No, I haven’t softened at all. What I said was, ‘If Dana White asked me to step up and save a card, I would.’ I’m not softening on it at all. I just don’t trust drug testing. I feel like she’s been doping her whole life. She has a record of coming in ridiculously overweight and using steroids. She called me a spoiled little brat, but she’s the one that comes in at whatever weight she wants, she takes whatever drugs she wants, and somehow I’m the spoiled brat. That girl needs somebody to put their foot down and teach her a lesson.
What if the fight was under Olympic standard drug testing?
No. They make new advances in drug testing every year because people keep finding ways to cheat it. That girl has been doing steroids for a very long time. You can tell by how it’s affected her body and bone structure. She went all those years without ever getting caught once. There are ways around those tests. They aren’t perfect. I don’t care what kind of drug tests they do. I still think that once you’re a cheater, you’re always cheater, that’s how she is, that’s how she fights. Like I said before, I don’t care if she’s injecting horse semen into her eyeballs. I just want her to fight at 135 pounds.
It’s been just over a year since you made your Strikeforce debut. What has the last 12 months been like?
It feels like it went really fast, but it also feels like it has taken forever. It feels like a million years ago, actually. So much has happened in that year that I think I’ve fit three years in that year. I’ve had a three-year-long year. The feeling looking back is almost as if time is slowing down and speeding up at the same time.
What do you expect from the next 12?
I don’t even know what I’m doing next week. What’s going to be going on in the next 12 months, I don’t even know. I don’t even know when my next fight is. Well, I’m really looking forward to going to the fights in Toronto. UFC 152 has got my undivided attention right now. Well, maybe not undivided. I just saw something shiny. What?
