Introducing "The Ultimate Fighter Heavyweights": Wes Shivers

You already recognize some of names and faces from the upcoming season of “The Ultimate Fighter,” but there’s a lot you probably still don’t know about this group of 16 heavyweight warriors. Each weekday between now and the Sept. 16 premiere of “The Ultimate Fighter Heavyweights,” FIGHT! will introduce two cast members leading up to the introduction of our TUF bloggers.

A 1995 graduate of Brandon High School in Jackson, Miss., Shivers was a two-time football state champ and Junior College All-American at Hinds Community College in Mississippi. The offensive tackle earned a scholarship to Mississippi State University where he went on to be selected All-SEC during his senior year and competed in two bowl games in his two seasons at MSU. In 2000 Shivers was drafted in the 7th round by the NFL’s Tennessee Titans and spent time with both the Titans and Atlanta Falcons.

After his football career ended, Shivers spent four years in law enforcement as a patrol deputy and breacher on the SWAT Team. He also began training in mixed martial arts to quench his competitive fire. A talented grappler and Muay Thai artist, Shivers is currently training with Hammer Hill in Jackson, Miss. and Alan Belcher’s Team Remix in Biloxi.
