Drew Dober: FIGHT!'s Full Time Fighter (Day One)

drew-11

Drew Dober won FIGHT! Magazine’s Full Time Fighter contest. The prize package included training gear from Jaco and MMAWarehouse, a week of training with Shawn Tompkins at Xtreme Couture in Las Vegas, Nev., and cash to blow on slots and “exotic dancers.” We’ll be keeping up with him all week to let you know about his experience as a full time fighter.

Day One:

8:30 a.m. – Ryan wakes me up with breakfast in bed, lol. What a weirdo. We leave for the airport and we part ways at security.

10:20 a.m. – I get seated in my plane and fall asleep instantly, for the whole flight.

12:06 p.m. – I get picked up from the Las Vegas airport by Shawn Tompkins’ wife, Emilie, and Sam Stout.

12:30 p.m. – I arrive at the fighter house. It’s Shawn Tompkins’ house but he lets fighters stay on the second floor. I share a room with Sam Stout.

1 to 4 p.m. – I watched a movie with Sam and just relaxed in the house.

4:30 p.m. – I leave the house with Shawn to tour the strip and all the casinos. We eat some ice cream and just talk about MMA and training. Shawn is one of the coolest guys that I have met in the MMA game.

5:30 p.m. – Shawn and I go grocery shopping, haha.

6 p.m. – I am back at the house talking to Sam Stout about people that train at Xtreme Couture and the reality show. I start watching Rocky II, haha. The rest of the night was watching the Rocky marathon and talking to a couple of the pros about fights and cutting weight.

It was a pretty lackluster first day. Just trying to get comfortable in a strange place and getting to know these guys in Vegas. Tomorrow I start my training camp with the pros so I will have an interesting entry tomorrow.

Read his diary from day two.
