"M-1 Breakthrough" Moved to Kansas City, Fedor to Spar Mousasi

Following the near-collapse of it’s first “Breakthrough” event, M-1 Global has moved it’s scheduled Aug. 28 show from the Los Angeles Convention Center to Kansas City, Kan.’s Memorial Hall. The show will feature a main event of Mohammed “King Mo” Lawal vs. Mark Kerr. Lawal was scheduled to face Don Frye, who according to M-1 Global, backed out of the fight after it was moved. The card will also feature the stateside debut of Karl “Psycho” Amoussou as he fights Nick “The Goat” Thompson.

In an unexpected twist, the show will host a sparring match between Fedor Emelianenko and Gegard Mousasi. Says Joost Raimond, M-1 Global Chief Operating Officer: “We were blown away by just how popular Fedor’s exhibition vs. Aoki in Japan was,” said Raimond. “Fedor and Gegard have sparred many times together and the sessions have always been intense. Now fight fans watching on television and those attending live in Kansas City will get a rare glimpse at two of the best fighters in the world sparring each other.”

Tickets for the event will go on sale Aug. 13 at 10 a.m. CT at all local Ticketmaster outlets, Ticketmaster.com, or by phone at (800) 745-3000.
