This Sunday at Adrenalin FC’s ‘Fight Club,’ Tommy Maguire (8-2), best known for his losing effort against Nick Osipczak in the Team UK tryouts for ‘The Ultimate Fighter: Season Nine’ will take on Medway Submissions’ underdog Carl Kinslow (0-1). While some would be quick to call this a mismatch, Kinslow is confident he can walk away with the win.
“I am very excited to fight and perform to the best of my abilities,” declared the former Adrenalin FC Amateur Champion. “I believe that in the way of fight experience, I have the same amount as him. I’ve had ten amateur MMA bouts, a K1 style fight and one boxing bout, plus numerous no-gi and BJJ tournaments. I’m confident to fight Tommy.”
While evidently sure he’ll get the win, Kinslow does realise Maguire will pose a huge test. “He comes out to fight,” noted Carl. “He’s pretty well rounded and a tough guy. I see it being a war and going my way through determination. I’m an all rounder, fit and tough with a lot of heart. I’m going to fight hard.”
In his professional debut, Kinslow was stopped in a round by Team Titan’s Luke Newman, who was also having his first contest in the paid ranks. Carl reckons the stoppage was ‘definitely’ early, and would like to avenge his loss soon. He stated, “If he goes as far as I’m going to, we will meet again in the future.”
Indeed, Kinslow is convinced he can achieve great things in mixed martial arts. “I plan to go all the way and will not stop until my goal is achieved,” he asserted. “I train six days a week in MMA, BJJ, Wrestling, Boxing and Thai Boxing, plus fitness and weight routines. This is all whilst working five days a week.”
In spite of this, his opponent is sure this won’t last long. Tommy declared, “This fight wont go out of the first round and I’ll be looking for the KO. I’m really looking forward to this fight.”
Considering Maguire has mixed in very good company, some may think that he’d find it difficult to motivate himself for this. However, records mean nothing to Tommy, and he revealed there’s an extra impetus for him to win this bout.
“Every fight is a threat so I don’t take anyone lightly,” he admitted. “Also, seeing my brother John Maguire get robbed on BAMMA [John lost to Simeon Thoresen by decision on the May 15th card in Birmingham] is enough to get me motivated for any fight.”
Last time out, Tommy beat Jordan James by TKO in the second round. He was content with his performance. He said, “I went in to that fight with a broken hand so yes I was very pleased with how it went.”
Even though he didn’t manage to get into the TUF house, the Tsunami Gym product is still convinced he can make it to the big leagues. Maguire noted,
“I was really gutted with my perfomance and not getting in the TUF house. After this fight, I’ll be going down to lightweight and I don’t see there being any problems with me getting in the UFC in the future. I know I can go all the way.”
Will Maguire dominate as many predict he will, or will Kinslow cause a shock and send out a statement? On June 6th, we will know the answer.
