Many men have talked confidently about how they will defeat Fedor Emelianenko but only one has backed up his words. Brazilian Jiu Jitsu black belt Fabricio Werdum used his superlative submission game to tap out Fedor just 69 seconds into their M-1 Global / Strikeforce main event bout, handing the Russian the first real loss of his MMA career (the other being a controversial cut stoppage). Full results and analysis of how M-1 Global / Strikeforce: Fedor vs. Werdum affected our rankings are below.

FIGHT! Rankings

Fedor entered the night at the top of FIGHT!’s Heavyweight Rankings and slips just one spot with the loss, to #2. Fabricio Werdum jumped from #8to #4.

Cung Le and Scott Smith switched places in our Middleweight Rankings, with Le jumping up from #41 to replace Smith at #18, and Smith taking Le’s former spot at #41.

In Lightweight action, Josh Thomson wasn’t helped by his win over Pat Healy, and Healy wasn’t hurt much at all by the loss; Thomson stays put at #31 and Healy drops one spot, from #83 to #84. Bobby Stack enters our rankings at #54 with a win over unranked Derrick Burnsed.

While the anecdotal evidence clearly points to Cris “Cyborg” Santos being the top female MMA fighter in the world, FIGHT! does not currently rank female fighters because we believe that there is insufficient data available to accurately rank women in three divisions (flyweight, bantamweight, and featherweight). No other ranked fighters appeared on the card.
