Smoking Gun

Spending the holidays as a soldier overseas is never easy, but it helps to know there are some sweethearts at home that have your back. Armed with looks that kill, the 24-year-old Kandiss Lewis is ready to take the acting and modeling world by force — if necessary.

So Kandiss, rumor has it you just got off the set of a television show. What are you working on?

It’s called The Vampire Diaries, and it’s is on the CW. I’ve been doing a little work for them lately as an extra.

Sounds fun. I like the Southern accent. Where are you from?

I was born in Delaware but moved to Georgia when I was eight years old. I’m living in Atlanta now.

What’s the biggest difference?

Life is a little slower in the South. We tend to take our time down here.

How did you get into modeling?

I was 14 years old, and I got a job as a hair model for a magazine. They wanted a girl who would cut her hair and have it colored. It was pretty scary, really, because my Mom is a stylist and is the only person to ever cut my hair. So, I did the shoot, but I had to have her fix my hair after that. Since then, I’ve just picked up modeling jobs along the way for fashion shows, tradeshows, and local promotions, and now I’m doing it all the time.

That’s a fun way to spell your first name. Where did it come from?

My Mom got creative. I’ve never seen it spelled like that either. It’s different and fun.

Do you watch a lot of MMA?

Yes. My boyfriend and me…

Boyfriend? Say it isn’t so!

We’ve been together since high school. He was the quarterback. I was the head cheerleader. He was the homecoming king. I was the homecoming queen. We actually dated for a week in middle school. Anyway, we love to have our friends over to watch the fights or a football game. You know, throw some steaks on the grill and bake a few potatoes.

Who is your favorite fighter?

Todd Duffee.

He’s a big boy.

Yeah, and he’s a Georgia boy. Before he was with the UFC, I used to go to Wild Bills in Atlanta and watch him fight.

I see you’re sporting a gun in your photo shoot. Are you a gun owner?

No. But I do have a bb gun my grandfather gave me. You know, that gun in the photo shoot was real!

What do you do to keep in such good shape?

I love to run. I run stadium steps for fun.

That’s insane. No one likes to run stadium steps.

I do. I also do a medicine ball workout and lift free weights. I love working on my cardio, though. I’m a fanatic.

When you’re not running stadium steps, what do you do for fun?

I like to catch a Braves game or go to a concert. But I also like hanging out at home with a good movie.

What sort of plans do you have on the horizon?

I’d really like to get my foot in the door with acting and see where it goes.

Which do you enjoy more, modeling or acting?

I’ve been modeling for a long time, so the acting is fun change of pace. But I love them both.

What are your long-term plans?

I want to travel, get married, and have a family.

And read FIGHT!?

Absolutely. The photo shoot was a blast!
