Undefeated at 12-0, Lyle Beerbohm has quietly gained a large following in his native Northwest after going through a rough patch in his life. Known as “Fancy Pants” because of the colorful shorts that he wears during fights, Beerbohm is now picking off Lightweights in Strikeforce as he works his way up to a title shot in the near future. With his colorful personality, Beerbohm has risen from relative obscurity to being one of the top prospects in Strikeforce.
Beerbohm first showcased his skills to a national audience back in early 2008 when he fought on Strikeforce at the Dome, which was broadcast live on HDNet. He would face journeyman Ray Perales. After dominating the majority of the fight, Beerbohm was finally able to finish off his opponent with a guillotine choke late in the fight.
Once again, Beerbohm would appear on HDNet as he would take on former Sportfight Lightweight champion Ed Nuno at Sportfight 22. It was a back-and-forth affair with both fighters having their moments, but it was clear that Beerbohm had done more than enough to earn a unanimous decision over Nuno.
Now at 9-0 at this point in his career, Beerbohm drew the attention of EliteXC and the crafty Lightweight was signed to compete on the big stage. Making his Showtime debut, Beerbohm would face off with Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt Rafaello Oliveira. After struggling for most of the opening round with Oliveira’s ground game, Beerbohm turned it around and landed some devastating shots that opened a rather nasty gash on Oliveira that prevented him from coming out for the second round. Unluckily for Beerbohm, he would never get a chance to get going in EliteXC as the company ceased operations in only a matter of weeks after Beerbohm’s debut.
After having his promising career in flux for several months, Beerbohm was signed by Strikeforce – which replaced EliteXC on Showtime – to fight the ever-dangerous Duane “Bang” Ludwig. Ludwig is a respected mixed martial arts veteran who has fought in the UFC, K-1, Sengoku, and Strikeforce. This was a big step up in competition for Beerbohm, but he passed the test with flying colors. He immediately took the fight to the ground and quickly submitted Ludwig with a bulldog choke.
Now Beerbohm waits for another big fight as he steps his way up the ladder to a Lightweight title shot in Strikeforce.
