Fighting for the first time since his June dismissal from the UFC, middleweight Nate Marquardt will take on Yoshiyuki Yoshida at BAMMA 9 on Feb. 11 in Birmingham, England. The event will be shown live on HDNet, which recently secured a multi-year contract with the British-based MMA organization.
ONE DREAM
Asian MMA organizations ONE FC and DREAM have officially announced a partnership that will include sharing fighters from their rosters and co-promoting events. Their first joint effort takes place in Singapore on March 31. DREAM has produced more than 20 events over three years and features a roster that includes fighters such as Shinya Aoki and Gegard Mousasi. Since its inception in 2011, ONE FC has swiftly infiltrated the Asian market, reportedly signing deals that make its future shows available in 500 million households across Asia.
LIKE A PRO
Japanese fan-favorite Ikuhisa Minowa signed a three-fight North American exclusive contract with ProElite and will debut against UFC veteran Kendal Grove at ProElite 3 on Jan. 21 in Honolulu, Hawaii.
ULTIMATE CONQUEST
In less than two months, the UFC will circle the globe with international events in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on Jan. 14; Saitama, Japan, on Feb. 25; and Sydney, Australia, on March 3.
TRISTAR
Montreal-based Tristar Gym, which is home to UFC stars Georges St-Pierre and Rory MacDonald, will be opening a facility in China. Firas Zahabi, who heads Tristar, will be spearheading the Asian expansion.
MAXED OUT
After more than a year-long layoff, UFC vet Wilson Gouveia will return to the cage to fight light heavyweight Dewayne “D-Bomb” Lewis at Maximum Fighting Championship 32 in Edmonton, Canada, on Jan. 27. The event, which will be broadcast on HDNet, also features UFC vets Brian Cobb and Antonio McKee.
