Desert Heat

The Nevada desert isn’t the kind of place you’d want to get lost. It’s hot, dry, and dusty, and if you’re not careful, you could end up a permanent resident. Of course, it’s not so bad if you run into someone like Elly Brown. The Las Vegas native was such a sight for sore eyes that she had us convinced we were seeing a mirage.

Hey Elly, rumor has it you dabble in some MMA?

That’s true. My favorite thing to do is kickboxing down at Warrior Training Center, which is perfect because they also teach other martial arts like jiu jitsu.I saw them doing jiu-jitsu, and I got really inspired to try it out. So that’s been my thing lately.

Interesting. How’s that going?

Oh, I love it. It’s amazing. It’s a great way to take out all your frustrations, but then you come out of it feeling really peaceful. It’s an amazing workout. And even on days when I don’t feel like working out, it’s inspiring to go down there because, of course, you always run into Forrest or Amir Sadollah or Todd Duffy. It’s great. It makes me want to get up and go do my workout.

Out of all the submissions you’ve learned, which one is your favorite?

Well, I think with my long legs, it’s gotta be a triangle choke. That’s going to be my specialty for sure.

You mean you’ve actually caught a couple of people in triangles?

Oooh, yes (laughing). You can’t escape my triangle choke.

Hmmm, that’s gotta be popular with the guys. So Elly, as a fan of MMA,who are your favorite fighters?

Well, of course GSP. I like the shorts. But who has really impressed me lately is Dominick Cruz. That guy is hot.

Let’s say one of these guys wants to take you out, what would be your ideal first date?

Anything but a movie. I think if you can’t actually talk and interact, it’s not actually a date. The movie thing is not going to work out. I like to go outdoors and be in nature and, you know, if we get to know each other a little better, maybe we can cuddle up to a DVD.

But we should probably consult with your husband first on that one?

Yes (laughing).

Okay, so we’ve gathered that you’re a gym rat. What other hobbies do you have?

I’m a singer. I just did a concert with the Las Vegas Philharmonic. It’s called Broadway a La Carte. It was fantastic! It’s one of the best things I’ve ever done. It was so much fun. It was so great for my soul. My other hobbies include cooking. I actually really like to knit, and I really like to be outdoors.

We heard that you like comics too?

Uh, yeah. (laughs) Well, actually, cartoons. Sponge Bob is my favorite. The perfect Saturday morning for me is a bowl of Fruit Loops and about two hours of Sponge Bob, and I’m not even kidding. Well, I mean, that’s a break day. That’s not every day. But that’s a perfect Saturday.

What are you running around in on this perfect Saturday morning?

Well, I like little silky robes, as a matter of fact. A little bit soft, a little comfy, and you know … snuggly.

Okay, so if you’re looking to buy Elly something for her birthday, think silky robe. Any color preference?

I like red.

Got that guys? Red. So it sounds like you were pretty popular out in the Las Vegas desert?

It appeared that way … During the photo shoot there was a guy in a truck… just kind of camped out, watching the whole thing. I’m not really sure what he was up to over there, and I don’t really want to know. But overall, it was a super fun experience!
