At FIGHT! Magazine, we believe there is a need for a completely objective and unbiased ranking system for fighters to replace the myriad subjective rankings that have become skewed, in many instances, by fighter popularity. In an effort to address this issue FIGHT! Magazine brings you its computerized rankings system which takes into account a fighters strength of opponent, strength of performance, and frequency of activity.
Tim Sylvia won the vacant PWP Heavyweight Championship on Saturday night but he didn’t improve his position in FIGHT!’s Heavyweight Rankings, holding steady at #19. Paul Buentello slipped from #41 to #44 with the defeat.
Tony Lopez was installed at #43 in our Light Heavyweight Rankings after winning the vacant PWP Light Heavyweight Championship. After being reassigned to 205 pounds, Lambert enters the rankings at #62.
After a three-fight skid pushed him completely out of our rankings, Matt Horwich returned to #39 in our Middleweight Rankings with a win over former UFC title challenger Thales Leites. Leites falls from #33 to #59.
In the night’s other noteworthy bouts, former UFC Lightweight Champion Jens Pulver suffered a first round stoppage loss to unranked Diego Garijo and UFC vet pulled out a tough decision win against unranked Jorge Ortiz. Pulver remains #53 in our Featherweight Rankings. If he competes again at 155# he will be reassigned to Lightweight. After a period of inactivity, Martin re-enters our rankings at #63.
