M-1 Global called a press conference today in Moscow to talk about Josh Barnett’s failed drug test, his replacement for the Affliction: Trilogy main event, and Fedor’s future. While Vitor Belfort has agreed in principle to taking the fight, according to Fedor’s agent and M-1 Global president Vadim Finkelchtein, that’s not a done deal.
“We personally entertain the idea of having Brett Rogers step in since he knocked Andrei Arlovski out,” he said. “But if there is any problem with Rogers, then it’s pretty safe to say it’s going to be Belfort. However, we are well aware of the fact that fans don’t consider Vitor Belfort to be a suitable replacement, according to a recent Sherdog poll.”
This is despite recent assurances from Strikeforce that neither Brett Rogers nor Fabricio Werdum would be available to fight Fedor. M-1’s summary of the press conference can be found here.
