Como Se Dice Mixed Martial Arts?: Grupo Televisa to Air UFC

According to a press release distributed by the Ultimate Fighting Championship, Spanish-language media conglomerate Grupo Televisa will launch Televisa Deportes Network (TDN) this summer. The network will be dedicated to sports and distributed to all cable and satellite households in Mexico and portions of the rest of Latin America.

From the press release: “The primary objective is to satisfy the demand of the viewers who are always critical and demanding and always looking for new sports content. That is why we are celebrating the exclusive UFC 100 transmission in Mexico – UFC has positioned itself as the worldwide leader in Mixed Martial Arts,” said Ricardo Perez Teuffer, Vice President of Sports and Special Events, Televisa.

TDN’s UFC schedule will consist of live UFC Fight Night events, UFC Countdown shows, one-hour fight preview shows, and the weekly series Guerreros del UFC, a Spanish-language compilation show that features the greatest bouts throughout the UFC’s 15-year history.

According to the press release Grupo Televisa, S.A.B., is the largest media company in the Spanish-speaking world with interests in televsion production and broadcasting, international distribution, satellite and cable broadcasting, magazine publishing and distribution, radio production and broadcasting, pro sports and live entertainment, as well as film production and distribution.

To put this in context, the deal is akin to the UFC inking a deal with NBC Universal in the United States. To celebrate the deal, Grupo Televisa will make UFC 100 available for free Saturday night on Channel 9, one of four broadcast channels the company controls in Mexico City.
