Here are the final UFC 187 disclosed payouts, per Nevada Athletic Commission:
Sorry, I forgot to add Anthony Johnson making a $500K purse to face Daniel Cormier, who made $180,000 total ($90K fight, $90K win).
Weidman shares in PPV points, so his final pay should be significantly higher. Donald Cerrone ($152K total) was next highest payday.
Chris Weidman made disclosed $500K ($250K fight, $250K win bonus) for Saturday win over Vitor Belfort, who had a higher fight purse ($300K).
Family selfie at the town Memorial Day parade. Hope you (Americans) are all enjoying a day we're fortunate to have.
Wishing everyone a happy and safe Memorial Day weekend.
Cormier has been toiling in gyms around the world for a long time, so he deserves all of that & his moment. Respect.
I guess the coolest thing out of DC getting the belt is that he'll get some PPV points & a nice payday when he fights Jones.
Daniel Cormier, whooped for five rounds in January, is now the UFC LHW champion. (But the No. 2 LHW in the world.) #UFC187.
I'm so curious if Jon Jones is watching this fight right now.
I'm all in.
This fight is pretty intriguing. I'm thinking Rumble pulls a Chuck Liddell, uses his wrestling to stay upright & bungalows his way to a W.
Anthony Johnson vs. Daniel Cormier for the Jon Jones placeholder championship. Two studs but JJ is the man 'til he loses.
Post-TRT Vitor ain't the same lion. Pretty smooth sailing for Weidman, who withstood early Vitor barrage & dominated on the ground. #UFC187
By the way, this to me is the main event. Usually don't care about fight order, but this is the only champ on the card. He deserved it.
I got Weidman by 3rd round finish here. Belfort's power always makes him a threat but it diminishes minute by minute in a fight. #UFC187
This should be fun if Makdessi can keep it standing. Cerrone will of course tangle on the feet, but should have a big ground edge. #UFC187
It's 2015 and Andrei Arlovski is a UFC heavyweight title contender. What a sport. What did we just watch!
The young lion looks a bit more like a middle-aged house cat tonight. #UFC187
BTW, if Weidman is like NASDAQ, it may close at a record high today, so maybe not the best metaphor Belfort could have used.
"Vitor Belfort compares Chris Weidman to NASDAQ". Alright,
here, take my click. http://t.co/VnN9CxeAAA
Surprising thing isn't that Dana called his fighter-critics short-sighted on Reebok deal. It's that he thinks this will blow over. It won't.
Major title fight, mmm kay? Lol. RT
exactly... Come on Mike
Urijah Faber's first non-title fight loss since Sept. 2005. Hat's off to Frankie Edgar.
I'm glad the media is so publicly thrilled for Munoz. It's OK to be human before being whatever your job is. (Now back to work!)
Completely agree. RT
Among the most genuine and unaffected people I've met in 15 years covering MMA.
Great to see Mark Munoz ride off into the sunset on a win in front of such an appreciative crowd. Happy trails...
Brandon Halsey wins Bellator middleweight title match, loses belt. #WeirdButTrueMMAHeadlines
It's utter bunk when half of the fine for missing weight goes to a commission. The opponent is taking the risk & deserves the entire amount.
I've had people doubting "mainstream" coverage. Here:
They have about a month and a half to readjust. Seems they are taking in the feedback, so should be interesting to see how they respond.
If pressure continues, UFC's going to have to relent & at least offer fighters the chance to sell 1 patch on their shorts. PR nightmare now.
UFC-Reebok troubles continue on with mainstream media coverage. Reebok also has issue with Crossfit. Sports sponsorship ain't easy.
HBO says early reports indicate 4.4 million buys for Mayweather-Pacquiao. Old PPV record was 2.48 million for Mayweather-DeLaHoya.
Congrats to Ronda Rousey on her SI cover. Such dedication to her craft from a young age. Very deserving of the honor.
There's a few wrong/missing details in the
story, but it was a pretty funny experience. I ain't mad at ya, Chiesa!
Granted, it's the UFC's platform, but athletes take on cost of training camp, and should have a chance to have sponsorships underwrite it.
That would minimize "NASCAR effect," keep clean look, but at least give fighters a chance to grow their own brand.
Reebok/UFC deal numbers are underwhelming & the fighter backlash is understandable. Fighters should at least have 1 spot on uni to sell.
Just torching some meats for #MayPac
Breaking: John Makdessi replaces injured Khabib Nurmagomedov, faces Donald Cerrone at UFC 187.
Stann should be his life coach RT
Brian Stann on Jon Jones: I’d love to say I was shocked but I was not
Woke up to hear Jon Jones is no longer the UFC LHW champ. I'm fine with that. Glad he has time to himself, hope he uses it wisely.
It's no secret that this sport draws some damaged souls, but no one is beyond redemption. Here's hoping he can turn it around. (7/7)
And as fans, all we did is reject that as disingenuous. We all have different sides and fight our own inner battles from time to time. (6/7)
Maybe we should be careful when we tell fighters to embrace their "heel.' Maybe he acted positively to move himself in that direction. (5/7)
All that said, I wish JJ the best. His life has been a whirlwind for years. He needs to step back from his public self & find peace. (4/7)
Those statements are extremely contradictory. You cannot control your professional life while having no control of your personal. (3/7)
His attorney did him a real disservice by saying Jon wants to get down to training while adding that he's "taking all this" seriously. (2/7)
