FIGHT! Picks: WEC 44 Brown vs. Aldo
WEC cards are great because they prove the adage that names don’t make fights, fights make names. When you tune into Versus you know you’re going to get a compelling main event supported by a barn-burning undercard full of guys you may or may never have seen before. Betting on guys you’ve never seen fight may be dicey, but so is going bareback and that never stopped you filthy SOBs before. Betting odds courtesy of BestFightOdds.com.
(Brown puts Urijah Faber on notice.)
Mike Thomas Brown has looked like the truth since dethroning WEC Featherweight Champ Urijah Faber. But Jose Aldo is the Way, the Truth AND the Light, finishing each of his first five WEC opponents with strikes. He’s the Anderson Silva of 145 pounds – so good on his feet, you forget that he’s got a black belt in BJJ just in case he ever ends up on the ground. Brown is damn good but I have a feeling that Aldo is better.
FIGHT! Pick: Aldo.
“Razor” Rob was the class of the WEC’s 155-pound division ruled the WEC’s lightweight division from 2006 to 2008, but since then he’s suffered two losses and dealt with injuries. He needs a win, and WEC newcomer Karen Darabedyan presents his best chance at one.
FIGHT! Pick: McCullough
Even with Gamburyan’s bum shoulder I’ll take his bulldog style and top control in this battle of lightweights-turned-featherweights.
FIGHT! Pick: Gamburyan
I seem to be taking underdogs today so why not pick Roller over Castillo to wrap things up? Castillo’s Team Alpha Male affiliation reeks of collegiate wrestling but Roller’s wrestling is top shelf and his jiu jitsu comes by way of Cobra Kai’s Marc Laimon, who ain’t too shabby. FIGHT! Picks: Roller.
