FIGHT! Rankings: Strikeforce Heavy Artillery
(“The Reem” cracks our top five.)
At FIGHT! Magazine, we believe there is a need for a completely objective and unbiased ranking system for fighters to replace the myriad of subjective rankings that have become skewed, in many instances, by fighter popularity. In an effort to address this issue FIGHT! Magazine brings you its computerized rankings system which takes into account a fighters strength of opponent, strength of performance, and frequency of activity.
Two fight cards went down last night that had implications for FIGHT!’s MMA Fighter Rankings. The larger of the two, Strikeforce: Heavy Artillery, was stacked with four heavyweight fighters in the top 20. Alistair Overeem entered the Strikeforce cage ranked #8, while the heavyweight title challenger, Brett Rogers, started the night at #7. Overeem now stands at #5 following the win, while Brett Rogers drops to #14 with the loss. Andrei Arlovski came in at #12 despite a two-fight skid and now stands at #20 after the loss. Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva entered the arena ranked #19 and thanks to the win finished the night in the top 10 at #9.
Former UFC Heavyweight Champion Kevin Randleman entered the bout ranked #40 at Light Heavyweight but dropped to #42 following the loss to the previously unranked Roger Gracie. The champion grappler enters our rankings at #23. In other light heavyweight action, Rafael Cavalcante stood at #28 prior to his bout with the unranked Antwain Britt. Following Feijao’s win, Cavalcante is ranked #20, while Britt remains unranked.
In what might have been a number one middleweight contender match, #14-ranked Middleweight Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza took on #46-ranked Joey Villasenor. And both stay put after “Jacare”‘s win. In what might have been a number one lightweight contender match, Lyle Beerbohm squared off with Vitor Ribeiro. Ranked #33 and #35 in our Lightweight Rankings, the fighters move to #30 and #37, respectively, following Beerbohm’s slightly baffling decision win. No other ranked fighters appeared on the card.
