Therefor I had to ask!

Continuing..Im 5'10" and I'm 22 years old. And the info you supplied is great i can see alot of things in my diet that need to change in order to achieve my goal. Oh, 11OXO is almost like a fat burner its suppose to burn the viscerel fat, increse muscle density and some other stuff i can't remember at the moment but thats the gist if it.

Thank you for your help, and I've been looking for a good MMA gym around here to get into if not them maybe boxing or straight MT. Its a small town and not a whole lot to offer here when it comes to Mixed Martial Arts.

Again Thank you!!

    Author: AFirestormToPurify
Subject: What are you taking?
Posted: 11 Nov 2008 at 10:55am

Ok soldier...
Before I dispense more info, I just want to point out that I am not a certified dietician, doctor, etc. I am just extraordinarily well informed. On that note, we continue-

First: How old and how tall are you? I'm fairly certain you have NO use for the arimatest. Your natural testosterone level should be sufficient. The main idea behind taking test. supps is that higher levels of test. help to prevent breakdown of muscle tissue after workouts (usualy in your sleep). Your natural level should be sufficient to handle that job. Save yourself some money. A good protein shake right before a workout will help to prevent muscle breakdown (which is generally caused by the lactic acid that builds up within them) as will drinking plenty of water.

Hydroxycut is a waste of time unless it has ephedra in it. I believe that they stopped making it with ephedra a few years ago so thats out. I'm not familiar with 11OXO but it sounds like an NO2 supplement? If that's the case, again, not necessary. Caffeine will give you enough of a boost. I reccomend a cup of coffee, a couple shots of espresso or some green/ white tea. It's healthier for you (especially the tea) and the caffeine used in conjuction with a good cardio workout will aid in weight loss.

Now, your routine sounds pretty good. Running is really the best thing you can do for weight loss. If you can get in at least a mile or two a day then you're on your way. You also want to be sure to maintain muscle mass, since muscle mass uses up calories.

Things to avoid:

Alcohol

non-natural or added sugars

high fructose corn syrup (I could write a book on this stuff- it IS a natural sugar but your body dŒs NOT handle it well).

Animal based proteins (Ideally, you should only eat an animal based protein once per day if you are trying to lose fat. I reccomend chicken or fish- though if you can get it buffalo and ostrich are great as well. To make up the proteins eat more beans or soy products).

Excess carbs. Don't cut them out entirely. Figure out how often you eat foods that are mainly carbohydrates or high in carbs... then reduce it by at least half. As americans we tend to have diets overly rich in carbs. What is really dangerous are refined and highly refined carbs. Avoid foods that contain white flour (processed foods like twinkies, cereals, pastas, etc).

Avoid Trans fats.

Things to get (or make part of your daily diet):

MORE LEAFY GREEN VEGGIES! (broccoli, spinach, collards, kale, etc. Also cauliflower-it has important digestive enzymes)

CLA supplement (be sure your supplement is CLA only and has no additional ingredients).

If you are thirsty: DRINK WATER.

One low-calorie Protein shake per day (on workout days).

Other suggestions: Find an MMA gym that offers Muay Thai and some form of Jiu-Jitsu. That will lean you up. two of my friends that started MT and BJJ this year have lost about 35% of their body fat and have gotten a LOT stronger with NO lifting.

Body Weight Exercises. These are better for you- they help maintain even muscle development which keeps your balance and stability on par. Try variations of Push ups, sit ups, leg lifts, etc.

Watch your fat intake. Don't cut it out entirely. Here's a good article to help inform you: http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/fat/NU00262

Other than that, it depends on your body and how it responds to different things. I think your exercise is fine. I really reccomend just getting into a martial art (it will get you in shape faster). If you still aren't meeting your goal, find a registered, liscensed nutritionist and see where you can make adjustments to your diet.

More info about getting into a healthy diet and healthy eating habits can be found in The Omnivore's Dilemma by Mike Pollan. Short book, great read and a bounty of info for living healthy.

Edited by AFirestormToPurify - 11 Nov 2008 at 10:59am

There is definitely gonna be a rubbermatch. I think next time Faber will come in and do whatever it takes to win instead of trying to look cool. I got nothing against Faber and I am sure it's hard to keep your feet on the ground when you are that dominant. Still, there's always gonna be someone out there that is just plain better than you. All the more reason to do like the old Matt Hughes and fight your fight every time. Hughes was a great example of what happens when you step out of your area of expertise in MMA. Not to say you shouldn't try to be well rounded- but if you are a grappler, why try and fight a stand-up battle?

As Urijah found out the hard way, Brown isn't the type of fighter u can pull that kind of crap with! I'm not surprised at all Brown won...but I did anticipate a 5 round war. A future rematch will be a huge ticket sell and then we will hopefully see a much smarter and hungry Faber looking to redeem himself.
